Meet Sydney's latest harbourside hot spot

Sydney is blessed with dozens of great places to wine and dine by the water.

To them you can add Cafe La Mer, which aims to bring French chic to historic Chowder Bay on Sydney Harbour.

It is the latest venture from the team behind Bistro L’Heritage and Frenchy’s Cafe and adds a French accent to harbourside views.

The picturesque location was once a gathering place for Indigenous communities and later a hub for 19th-century whalers, who hade a style of seafood chowder.

Cafe La Mer will offer two distinct experiences: by day, it’s a hole-in-the-wall café serving coffee and French-inspired light bites.

On Friday and Saturday evenings, the space transforms for its Sunset Sessions (4-7.30pm) - offering Champagne, rosé wines and Aperol spritzes alongside fresh oysters, prawns, and charcuterie boards.

Guests can relax in deck chairs, sipping their drinks as the sun sets over the harbour.

Visitors to Chowder Bay will also find a selection of French snacks and picnic essentials, including crisps, sweets, and ice creams, perfect for a seaside treat.
