Private cruising: how to explore Vietnam in conspicuous style

Who hasn't thought about grabbing a few friends and taking a boat on a voyage of exploration?

Now you can explore the waterways of Vietnam in your own private designer vessel – complete with staff, an onboard spa, plus private restaurant, and bar.

It sounds like the ultimate group getaway.

Leading south-east Asian cruise operator Heritage Line is offering two of its luxe ships for private charters in northern Vietnam’s beautiful Halong Bay and Lan Ha Bay.

You can pass the time viewing UNESCO World Heritage-listed scenery, floating past traditional fishing villages and picnicking on secluded islands.

Heritage Line’s vessels can host between 12 and 24 guests.

Each on-board suite features a private balcony, featuring French-Indochinese décor including exotic dark timbers, silks and painted ceilings, as well as large bathrooms.

Guests can choose between restaurant dining, a customised barbecue on the al fresco deck, or a cocktail party. They can start the day together with a sunrise yoga class.

“Private charters sailings are the perfect way to experience the small ship difference, including personalised service with dedicated staff who quickly know everybody’s name – something that’s just not possible on larger vessels,” said Andreas Schroetter, director of sales and marketing for Heritage Line.

“We invite travellers to slow down and sail in supreme comfort, enjoying an unforgettable sense of tranquillity and togetherness.”

In Halong Bay, Heritage Line VIOLET, the company’s most petite vessel, can be chartered for two or three-day sailings for a maximum of 12 guests staying in six suites.

For cruises booked by January 31, 2024 to sail on Heritage Line VIOLET between May and September during 2024 or 2025, charter prices start from $US3200 per night.

In Lan Ha Bay, Heritage Line GINGER offers two options with two- or three-day itineraries for up to 24 guests.

Activities on board include tai chi on the open-air terrace, cooking class, taking in the scenery from the pool with jacuzzi jets, or squid fishing with the crew after dark – then watching the chef prepare your catch for a late-night supper.

For cruises booked by January 31 for trips between between May and September during 2024 or 2025, private charter prices in Lan Ha Bay start from $US6200 per night.

*Charter prices include all excursions, sightseeing, onboard entertainment (as stated in program), full board dining and drinking water, brewed coffee and tea.
