Lucky customers pick up air tickets for $2.15

It is every flyer's dream. To pay a ridiculously low sum of money for your flight.

China Southern Airlines has said it will honour customers’ tickets after a systems glitch last week caused super cheap "mistake fares" to be sold for $AU2.15 (or 10 Yuan in local currency).

The glitch mostly affect domestic flights to and from the city of Chengdu, Travel Mole reported.

The international news agency Reuters reported examples of fares from Beijing to Chengdu being sold for 40 times less than the average fare.

"Mistake fares" happen quite regularly, but on most occasions the airline responsible refuses to honour the bookings.

Most airlines cancel bookings as soon as they became aware of their mistake.

“All flight tickets that have been paid and issued during the system glitch will be valid and travellers can use them normally,” the airline said.

It described it as a "system abnormality".

American Airlines, British Airways, All Nippon Airways and Air New Zealand and others have suffered glitches in its booking systems in recent years, and all moved quickly to cancel reservations.

Screenshots of the China Southern mistake fares were apparently posted on social media, causing a rush of bookings from opportunistic customers.

The exact number of cheap fares purchased due to the glitch is unknown.
