Central Melbourne Pullman has location, location, location

In any big city, it is vitally important to choose the right hotel location.

If you are in London, heading to check out Buckingham Palace, you don't want to be staying in the East End, trendy as that district may be.

Likewise if you are in Melbourne, aiming for the some city centre shopping and a bite to eat in Chinatown, you don't want to be staying in Preston, or Coburg.

If you want to be able to stroll to Chinatown, the Myer department store and some late night laneway activity the Pullman Melbourne on Swanston may be right up your alley.

Part of the Accor Group, it is tucked away off an iconic laneway in the middle of the city.

Try to book a room with access to the award-winning Club Lounge on level 15 (top image).

Here you can enjoy complimentary breakfasts (with buffet and a la carte options (below); toasties in the middle of the day; complimentary drinks and canapes between 5pm-7pm and a even a chocolate hour between 8pm-9pm.

My plan had been to dine at Eva’s Restaurant & Bar on level M, then rock a couple of drinks at Blossom Rooftop Bar on level 14, which is promoted as Melbourne's highest rooftop bar.

But modern travel does not always go according to plan. My flight was several hours late and I had to settle for a glass or two of red and a middle-of-the-night room service lasagne instead.

Fortunately, the Pullman offers 24-hour reception services - and 24-hour room service, although the QR code procedure can be a little clunky.

My room was very comfortable - I just didn't get to spend enough time in it.

There 204 rooms in all, equipped with a personalised digital concierge service and Aspar Arora body products for some in-room pampering.

There is also an on-site gym open daily from 6am-10pm.
