Often they are trying to smuggle food, or drugs, into Australia.
But a woman who landed in Chennai, India, last week after flying from Kuala Lumpur went one better.
She was caught trying to smuggle 22 snakes and a chameleon into the country.
The woman was intercepted by customs officials after arriving, Travel Mole reported.
The snakes were of various species and, along with the chameleon, were in individual plastic containers.
Local officials said they suspect wildlife trafficking.
The snakes were seized under customs and wildlife protection laws.
