You may associate the name Bollinger purely with Champagne, but the group also has an extensive portfolio in other regions.
The House of Bollinger, based in Ay (above) and with a history dating back almost 200 years, has just extended its presence in the Loire Valley by purchasing the high-profile Sancerre estate of Hubert Brochard.
More than a century old, the estate is managed by the fourth and fifth generations of the Brochard family, Drinks Business reports.
The estate covers 60 hectares of Sancerre and Pouilly-Fumé and the winery is located in Chavignol. he business is largely dedicated to sauvignon blanc.
Bollinger also owns the Ayala Champagne label as well as Maison Langlois-Chateau and Château de Thauvenay in the Loire Valley, Maison Chanson in Burgundy and the Ponzi Family winery in the Willamette Valley in Oregon.
The group also has an interest in Tapanappa in Australia, operated by family member Xavier Bizot and his wife Lucy.
Bollinger Group president and CEO Etienne Bizot said: “The acquisition of Hubert Brochard estate represents a unique opportunity to consolidate our footprint in this fantastic region and to continue to promote, in France and internationally, its savoir-faire and the very high quality of its wines.”
Hubert Brochard estate president Daniel Brochard said: “Each generation has participated in the development of our family estate and we are extremely proud of what we have accomplished, in full respect for tradition and for the work of the oldest generations.
“The handover to our partner Bollinger Group will ensure the continuity of this journey fuelled by the same values of entrepreneurship, family spirit, and obsession for quality.”
The price of the acquisition has not been disclosed.
