Thailand has delayed the introduction of its controversial THB300 tax on tourists.
The dunderheaded proposal will be postponed until at least the fourth quarter this year, the Ministry of Tourism and Sports said.
The Ministry has also proposed the Thailand Pass for incoming tourists be scrapped next month.
Tourism Minister Phiphat Ratchakitprakarn told local media that "additional research" is needed on the tourism fee before it can be implemented.
He added that cancelling the complex Thailand Pass will help boost international arrivals.
The proposal to drop it will be addressed at the next meeting of the Centre for Covid-19 Situation Administration (CCSA).
The Thailand Pass requires travellers to purchase travel insurance and deal with complex entry procedures. It may well have passed its use-by date.
The collection of the $12 25c tourism fee, meanwhile, is seen by many as a disincentive to tourism at a time when Thailand is trying to encourage visitors to return. It will now not be imposed until the fourth quarter of the year, if at all.
