Brexit crows come home to roost

The majority of Britons voted to leave the European Union and now they are reaping what they sowed.

Tens of thousands of British passport holders have been left stranded across airports all over Europe after yet another series of flight cancellations and immigration queue delays over the current holiday period.

Many travellers were due to return to the UK over the weekend but 100 flights were cancelled due to the ongoing issues with staff shortages that have plagued airports for months.

Lengthy queues - with Britons overseas forced to queue in "Non EU" lines, mass cancellations and delays are the fault of Brexit, London mayor Sadiq Khan has said.

He has called on the Government to relax immigration rules and allow European workers who were employed in the aviation industry before Brexit and the Covid-19 pandemic to return in order to plug the labour shortage in the sector.

Transport minister Grant Shapps, however, accused travel bosses of “cutting too far” during the pandemic and said it was up to the sector to solve the issues. Shapps is apparently not very bright.

British media reported passport holders infuriated at being held in long queues, while holders of Irish passports (part of the EU) whizzed through immigration formalities across Europe.
