Tasmania bouncing back

 

The tourism industry in Tasmania is bouncing back rapidly. 

The island state has experienced record hotel occupancy rates in March 2022, tourism industry minister Nic Street said. 

The Hotel Occupancy Report for March shows 88.15% of available rooms across the state were filled, which is an increase of 6% from February, and also the highest level of occupancy in a single month since before Covid began.

“In the three months since our borders reopened in December we have seen a 25% increase in the number of rooms filled,” Street said. 

“In 2021 the hospitality industry contributed $723 million into the Tasmanian economy, so I am thrilled to see that occupancy rates are up and that we are on a strong path forward.

“These occupancy figures show great confidence in the hospitality and visitor economy sectors and demonstrate that our plan to bring back visitors to the state is working.”

Among the upcoming winter events are Dark Mofo and the Festival of Voices as well as Agfest.

“Throughout Covid this Government has invested heavily into supporting our hospitality businesses to help them ride out the tough times they’ve all experienced, and we will continue to support this vital and vibrant sector,” Street said.
