Festival transforms downtown Vancouver in February

Vancouver is one of the loveliest cities in North America, a green waterfront metropolis that has much in common with Sydney.

The folk at Destination Vancouver are good at keeping me up to date with what is happening in their city - and there is plenty going on if you happen to find yourself in British Columbia this month.

A free outdoor celebration across downtown Vancouver will transform the city core in winter to an interactive, open-air gallery and celebration of art and live entertainment

Running from February 11-27, the VMF Winter Arts festival is produced by the team behind Vancouver Mural Festival and presented by the Downtown Vancouver Business Improvement Association.

The second such festival will bring together augmented reality (AR) art, light installations, and live performances.

VMF Winter Arts was created in 2021 amidst the pandemic.

The event is designed to encourage outdoor activity and support local businesses and artists, while enabling social distancing and a safe, welcoming outdoor space for all.

Free public art and entertainment will be showcased in Canada Place, along Burrard to Bentall Centre and Park Place, to the Vancouver Art Gallery, Vancouver Public Library Square, and Yaletown; plus BC Place and Science World.

At the centre of it all will be the Winter Arts Hub, located at šxʷƛənəq Xwtl’e7énḵ Square on the north side of the Vancouver Art Gallery.

A new addition to the festival this year, the Winter Arts Hub will be a central space in which to enjoy food, drinks, art, and free live performances.

Wish I could be there.
