Not your run-of-the-mill farmstay

When I think of a farmstay, I think rural, rustic, basic even.

I think sheep dogs barking, cows being milked, a rooster crowing and perhaps a bunkhouse in a former stable.

Not so at Wilga Station, where your rather upmarket farm stay will cost you $1,100 a night.

The Shearers Hall on Wilga Station is being promoted as "a new level of luxury farmstay".

The accommodation is in a former working shearer shed that was once a hub of activity on the 105-hectare sheep farm.

The restored five-bedroom country retreat for up to 10 guests is just 12 minutes from the city of Bathurst and 40 minutes from the wineries and gourmet offerings of Orange.

The old wool sorting table now holds pride of place in the entertaining area.

Expect to see grazing sheep outside your window along with views over Fitzgerald's Valley and Wilga Dam.

Think walking tracks, a willow-lined creek and toasted marshmallows and local wine.

Ingredients for a gourmet breakfast are provided, featuring local produce. 

Features include five bedrooms with queen-sized beds, two bathrooms. a fully equipped kitchen with oven, cooktop, microwave, fridge and a pantry stocked with staples, ceiling fans a wood fireplace and an entertaining deck with barbecue facilities. 

If you'd like something a little less spacious, the same farm also has the secluded Farmers Hut ($450 a night) - perched on top of a hill with views across the whole valley.

It is completely self-contained and suitable for singles or couples looking for a quiet getaway with a wood fireplace, king-size bed, kitchenette, designer bathroom and a sheltered barbecue area.
