Tasmania's iconic West Coast Wilderness Railway will this month celebrate 125 years of adventure.
To mark the occasion, the operators will be opening a new Museum Room at Regatta Point Station n Strahan on November 26.
A new Strahan Booking Carriage will also be launched to the travel trade as part of the birthday celebrations, but will not be fully operational until the peak summer period.
This year marks 125 years since the Mt Lyell Railway commenced operation to cater for the local mines.
The Mt Lyell Mining and Railway Company operated the railway from its opening in 1896 until 1963.
It was reopened in 2000 as a tourism experience and the rail fleet includes an original, surviving locomotive that returned to Queenstown since the railway reopened.
Operating between Queenstown and Strahan. The railway is significant because of its unusual Abt rack system used to conquer the tough mountainous terrain through the West Coast rainforests.
