Can you drink your way to better health?

I'm not much a health food person. I'd much rather have a bottle of chardonnay than kombucha, and a hamburger ahead of a vegan feast.

There are, however, times when it is nice to have an alternative to alcohol and actually consume a drink that is a both healthy and tasty.

Melbourne-based NudeHerbs is Australia’s first range of brewed herbal and floral tonics. It is described as "a functional beverage range that contains between 5 and 5.5 grams of fresh herbal and floral ingredients in each bottle."

Recipes are derived from an ancient culture and developed by scientist and entrepreneur Dr Ali Karami, who has combined tradition and science in formulating his drinks range.

The PR kit says the NudeHerbs range of tonics "are naturally delicious, ethically produced, sustainable and powerful beverages" suitable able for students, gym junkies, or anyone looking for an alternative to coffee.

The idea I like best, however, is using the NudeHerbs range as a healthy mixer for a cocktail. Just pour over some gin, or vodka, and there you go.

For those who want the facts: the total sugar content in NudeHerbs beverages is less than 2.5 grams per 100 gram beverage. The drinks are vegan friendly with no artificial preservatives, colours, or flavours and ingredients (herbs and flowers) are produced through sustainable farming.

The NudeHerbs range includes: Focus, a really delicious blend of herbs including Ginkgo biloba and Siberian ginseng that is a distinct orange colour from brewed turmeric and with topical pineapple flavours; Cleanse, with five herbs that cleanse internal organs with notes of ginger and cayenne pepper combined with fresh lemonade notes and Relax, a blend of six herbs and flowers with a mango tang that did not immediately appeal to me.

The drinks can be shipped nationwide in Australia. A single bottle is $6) a pack of three ($17), and a pack of six is $33). The drinks are also available in a range of clinics and grocers.
