Along with many homes and businesses in the Yarra Valley, Mandala Wines sustained severe damage from mid-June storms.
The winery cellar door and the adjoining DiVino restaurant are being completely refloored, plastered and painted as a result of the damage sustained.
In the meantime, Mandala has launched a new pop-up cellar door at its Dixons Creek-based winery from August 21. The new experience intimate experience will be held in different scenic sites across the winery, depending on the day and the weather.
Each 45-minute tasting will accommodate six adults, and visitors will experience a curated tasting of eight wines.
Rotating selections of estate and single site wines will be chosen each day by owner Charles Smedley and winemaker Don Pople with the sessions facilitated by Charles, Don and cellar door staff.
The price will be just $10 (which seems very reasonable for a serious wine experience).
The temporary tastings will take place regularly until work is finished.
“We wanted to ensure that given this lengthy disruption, we were not missing the chance to keep in touch with our local customers, nor miss a chance to meet new visitors to the area," said Smedley.
"We hope in offering something novel, deeply personal and educational, that those who join our roving cellar door will get a chance to continue to discover the story and passion behind a bottle of our wine.
“There is so much more to the bottle than just the label, and when wine enthusiasts visit us, we share stories, knowledge and nostalgia - and these are quintessential to opening a bottle, as is the wine that is in it.
“Wine is something that brings people together- our Prophet range was named after my grandmother, the Matriarch after my mother, and sharing this kind of history through tastings is a conduit to building up long-term relationships with our customers.”
The roving pop-up will be at 1568 Melba Highway, Dixons Creek, Yarra Valley on August 21-22, 28-29 and September 4-5 and 11-12.
