Meet the winery with no wine to sell

All Australians know about The Pub With No Beer.

Now meet the Mornington Peninsula wine producer that has shut its cellar door because it has no wine left to sell.

Ocean Eight, owned by the Aylward family, sent an email to customers this week explaining why it would be shutting up shop in the short term.

"We can't quite believe that we're saying this: Ocean Eight current vintages are sold out," said winemaker Mike Aylward.

"It's brilliant and exciting. Thank you all so much for your support.

"We're now working hard behind the scenes on our new release wines. For the moment, we'll be shutting the cellar door until they're ready to be released."

Ocean Eight joins a handful of Australian producers for whom demand exceeds supply. Grosset Wines in the Clare Valley is another that shuts up shop when it sells out of stock.
