It may be winter in Tasmania, but you can warm up with some great wine and food at the final Winter Lunch series event at beautiful and historic Rathmore House on August 1.
Join Bream Creek vigneron Fred Peacock, who knows more about wine in Tasmania than most people have forgotten, and myself for what should be memorable day of feasting at one of Tasmania's most beautiful historic houses.
As part of Tasmania's Off Season, star chef Scott Heffernan from Flint Kitchen (ex Smolt and Frank) will create a three-course gourmet lunch on the Sunday, featuring Rathmore-bred grass-fed lamb.
Last weekend's lunch showcasing wines from Bream Creek, Roslyn 1823 and Meadowbank was epic, with everyone having a fun time in their Tasmanian tuxedos (aka Puffer jackets).
Enjoy bubbles and canapes to start and then, over lunch, Fred will be talking about some of his best wines while you sup and sip, and I will answer all your wine questions, as well as offering a mystery wine game in either the Stables or the Barn.
For guests who want to make a weekend of it, Rathmore is offering packages including Saturday and Sunday night stays with a hearty soup suppers being served up on the Sunday after lunch.
A great idea not to drive home. Accommodation options include lovely rooms in the old homestead, a private cottage or the shearer's quarters.
