Major airline under fire for Covid-19 breaches

Air India is once again under fire for lax pre-travel testing protocols for Covid-19.

Hong Kong authorities have banned Air India flights for a fourth time after further glitches.

A recent flight from Mumbai carried passengers who subsequently tested positive for Covid-19 on arrival, Travel Mole reported.

The latest ban will last until November 10 - and it is clear Hong Kong is losing patience with the Indian flag carrier. It is the fourth time the Hong Kong government has imposed a ban.

On three previous occasions, it imposed bans in August, September and late October on the Delhi-Hong Kong route.

A Covid-19 negative test certificate is mandatory for all passengers, and Hong Kong has issued bans to several other airlines in the past few months, including fellow Indian carrier Vistara.

All airlines must submit an undertaking stating that all passengers onboard have Covid-19 negative certificates.

Hong Kong officials have previously called out the lax standards at some Indian testing labs.

Air India, a Government-owned enterprise, and operates a fleet of Airbus and Boeing aircraft serving 102 domestic and international destinations. Prior to the pandemic, it flew from several Indian destinations to both Sydney and Melbourne.
