Ever wanted to try a grenache/shiraz/mataro blend but been afraid you might not enjoy that particular blend?
Have you fancied trying a riesling that is a blend of fruit from the Clare Valley and Tasmania but been worried it might not be worth $35?
The winemaking team at Hardy's is so confident in its current range of wines that it is offering an unheard of "Love it, or your money back guarantee".
Given the number of dickheads desperate to save a dollar that might seem like a "foolhardy" move - but the offer stands across the the range of Hardy's wines purchased through October and November.
So if you are overwhelmed by the 100s of choices on your local bottle shop shelf, and are feeling adventurous, here is an offer you will not want to miss.
It goes like this: Buy any wine across the Hardy's range. Drink. Enjoy. If you don't: Go to the website. Say why you were unsatisfied. Upload your receipt. Get your money back.
You can't get fairer than that.
"We stand by our wines and this offer is meant to underline that - and encourage drinkers to try something that they might not have tried before," says Hardy's senior winemaker at Tintara in McLaren Vale Nic Bowen.
I did a tasting with Bowen today on Zoom - and on the evidence of the wines we sampled you might struggle to find one that fails to deliver.
We looked at blends of wines; both from different states and from different sub-regions. Blending has been a thing at Hardy's since 1853 with the company using the phrase: "The sum is often better than the parts."
Among today's stars:
Hardy's HRB 2020 Riesling ($35): A blend of fruit from the Clare Valley in South Australia and the Derwent Valley in Tasmania. Think a melange of citrus and wet slate, along with tropical fruits and hints of spice. Deliciously drinkable as an after-work pick-me-up.
Hardy's Tintara 2018 McLaren Vale Grenache Shiraz Mataro ($28): Vibrant and fresh with subtle oak, this lo-fi blend from several regions of the Vale has benefited from old-school basket pressing and is a terrific everyday red that finishes soft and smooth.
Hardy's 2016 Eileen Shiraz ($154): Supremely classy and beautifully balanced wine that's approaching its peak. From a classic vintage, this has elegance and power without the price tag of several other icon shirazes. Think a wine wearing a bow tie and tweed jacket, but with a wicked smile. Gorgeous drinking.
