New Zealand Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern has turned her back on possible travel links with Australia due to the continuing surge of Covid-19 cases in Melbourne and the state of Victoria.
Australia needs to be free of community transmission for at least 28 days for a travel bubble to commence, Ardern said.
"Anywhere where we have Covid-free travel they have to be free of community transmission for a period of time - that will be some time for Australia," she added.

Ardern said it was "very hard to predict" when travel between the two countries might restart, but indicated it might be "on the backburner for … several months".
New Zealand acted much more quickly and decisively than Australia when the pandemic struck and is currently Covid-free.
