Head for Slovenia for a unique gourmet experience

It's called the The Open Kitchen; a food market where you can experience the delights of freshly cooked food prepared by different Slovenian chefs right in front of you on their own market stalls.

Every Friday from mid-March to October, the Open Kitchen in central Ljubljana offers an opportunity to meet Slovenian chefs, taste Slovenian and international dishes, and learn about different methods of food preparation.

The choice of food on offer is wide and varied. Each Friday, the market features around 30 different food providers, including modern restaurants, traditional gostilnas, tourist farms, and independent chefs wanting to promote their offerings.

The cooking is done to the accompaniment of music and entertainment; and entry is free.

In case of bad weather, the market may be cancelled but it should be on the list of every food lover heading for Ljubljana.

Food and drink vendors attend from throughout Ljubljana and across Slovenia congregate for Odprta Kuhna, as the locals call it. This street food market is held in one of the Slovenian capital's prettiest squares.

The Slovenian micro-brewery and wine industries are both booming so it is well worth sampling a glass or two of Ljubljana’s finest from the Human Fish Brewery

The Open Kitchen, Pogačarjev trg, 1000 Ljubljana, Slovenia.
