Get set for Tasmania's first gourmet festivals of the season

Tasmania is coming alive after winter, ready to host a range of food and wine festivals over the summer months.

The fun and games kick off over the weekend of November 16-19 when two very different gourmet festivals help kick off the summer gourmet season.

If a sparkling garden party sounds to you like an appropriate way to welcome spring, head for the hills of Relbia, just north of Launceston.

Josef Chromy Vineyard will again play host to Australia's leading sparkling wine festival, Effervescence Tasmania. Guests can choose from masterclasses, degustation dining, behind-the-scenes tours and plenty of New World sparklings on offer.

On the east coast, on November 18, the delightful seaside town of Bicheno hosts the Bicheno Food & Wine Festival.

This event offers the chance to rub shoulders with leading wine and beer makers, food innovators and chefs - and there is live music, a patch of grass waiting for you, along with crayfish, mussels, oysters sauvignon blanc and pinot noir.
