The Yarra Valley welcomes a new wine and food festival

The Yarra Valley will launch a new wine and food festival on the lawns at Rochford Wines over two days in April.

The two-day Yarra Valley Wine & Food Festival will be held over the weekend of April 1-2 in conjunction with the Melbourne Food and Wine Festival.

The festival will highlight the Yarra's wines and food, as well as locally brewed cider and beers, daily from 11am to 5pm on both days.

It is the first time in the history of the wine region that both boutique wineries and big-name producers will come together at an event that will also feature live music and entertainment.

Big names such as Rochford, de Bortoli, Balgownie Estate and Punt Road will combine with Hanrahan Vineyard, Yering Farm Wines, Coombe Farm Wines and Tokar Estate, with over 40 leading regional wineries involved.

The line-up also includes Tarra Warra Estate, Zonzo Estate, Mandala Wines,  Oakridge, Timo Mayer Wines and Journey Wines.

Local brewers including Coldstream brewery, Watts River Brewing, Buckleys Brewery, Napoleone Brewery & Ciderhouse, Cherry Hill, Angry Cock Cider, St Ronan's Cider and Hargraves Hill will be showcasing their ranges of cider and beers, so there is something for everyone

A unique set-up will feature "wine laneways" including Chardonnay Lane and Pinot Noir Lane – as well as a lane dedicated for white wines and one for beers and ciders.

Cooking demonstrations will be held over both days at Festival Central, featuring top local chefs and restaurants in the region. Rochford is a regular concert venue used to dealing with big crowds.

As part of the Masterclass Program running all weekend, wine enthusiasts can learn first-hand about the winemaking process at a Premium Wines Masterclass, or for a truly unique experience they can attend a Museum Wines Masterclass and have the rare opportunity to taste older vintages.

Upon entry event-goers will be provided with a commemorative festival wine glass and can choose to purchase wine tasting cards for $20 each allowing for 10 wine tastings of their choice. They will even have the opportunity to purchase their favourite mixed wines by the dozen on the day that can be collected on their way out or delivered to their door.

The festival will also showcase a range of dishes from top Melbourne and regional food trucks.

There will also be a Wine Barrel Art Competition with local artists invited to exhibit their creative flair and turn a wine barrel into a work of art.

General admission tickets to the 2017 Yarra Valley Wine & Food Festival are $25 per person, per day including a commemorative wine tasting glass and an option to purchase a Wine Tasting Card for $20. Cheekily, there is also a booking fee involved, which is not at all hospitable.
.
Yarra Valley Wine & Food Festival Restaurant Dining Experience tickets are $150 per person, per day and include entry to the festival, a two-course meal and wine at the award-winning  Rochford Restaurant, a tasting card and a commemorative wine glass.
