What a treat for lovers of artisan spirits!
The Radisson Blu Plaza Hotel in Sydney has partnered with award-winning local distillery Archie Rose Distilling Co. - the first working distillery in Sydney since 1853 - to create a new high tea with a twist: the Distiller’s High Tea.
Renowned for its three-tiered sweet and savoury delights served with an array of international teas, the Radisson Blu Sydney decided to “shake up” this traditional high tea model and start with the beverages as the heroes.
From there, they have matched the distinct flavour notes of each spirit with the gourmet food offerings.
The Distillers High Tea includes three of Archie Rose’s spirits range – Original Vodka, Signature Dry Gin and White Rye.
The Original Vodka is accompanied by a sweet paprika, spinach and feta roll, juniper-infused smoked salmon on toast and a citrus tart; the Signature Dry Gin is matched with slow-cooked veal pie, cucumber, dill and cream cheese sandwich and a strawberry tart; and the White Rye ismatched with a chicken curry puff, spiced cake and a Belgian double chocolate slice.
The matchings can change depending on availability but are very much for lovers of pastry dishes.
The gin and vodka were both outstandingly smooth with the rye a little more harsh.
Guests can also to try Radisson Blu’s very own gin, called ‘Out of the Blu’, which has been
specially blended at the Archie Rose distillery and will be introduced into the Distiller’s High Tea, which is served at the hotel’s Fax lobby bar.
The gin was created in a “stirring” blending session at the distillery by Radisson Blu’s general manager Peter Tudehope, director of sales Terry Oomens and head chef Oswin Ribeiro.
“We are delighted to be able to offer our guests something truly unique – a new blend of gin that we have created just for them and the Distiller’s High Tea, showcasing spirits from Sydney’s most up-and-coming distillery,” says Tudehope.
The new Distiller’s High Tea is available in the Fax Bar until December 31 and costs $69 per person. There are also a range of other high tea options, including Traditional High Tea ($49 per person), Sparkling High Tea ($59 per person) and Champagne High Tea ($69 per person). There are 16 different styles of tea to choose from.
Radisson Blu Plaza Sydney is a stylish five-star hotel housed within a stunning heritage-listed building and features 336 guest rooms, 28 suites, the signature Bentley Restaurant and Bar and Fax lobby bar.
