Now here is something I really want to do

This blog is usually about wine, food and accommodation experiences that I have done personally.

This post, however, is about a trip that I really would like to do at some point say in three years' time).

First, it involves exploring Cambodia, an unspoiled tourist destination I have only visited once.

Secondly, it highlights tasting the best of the local food in situ, which is obviously very appealing. And thirdly it involves exercise, which I badly need.

The Gourmet Cambodia cycling tour is an eight-day/seven-night trip with Tour de Vines, cycling to a different destination each. All I have is a press release, so I can't recommend it from first-hand experience, but it certainly looks intriguing.

The blurb promises you’ll become an expert in Cambodian cuisine, capable of whipping up your very own amok trey (steamed curried fish – Cambodian style) in a jiffy.

Cycling is a very good way to interact with locals in Cambodia. In rural areas, tourists are still a novelty. The itinerary promises a good balance of cycling, sightseeing and food tastings with no day involving more than 50km - and a support van is never far away.

The next tour starts in Siem Reap on Saturday, October 29, and ends in Phnom Penh via Battambang and Kampot.

It includes a wok-style cooking class at a local cooking school to learn the secrets to great Asian flavours, complete with a guided market visit for produce. A six-course degustation dinner in Siem Reap is also included, as well as a boat ride on Lake Tonle Sap and a guided pepper farm tour.

Priced from $2,500 per person twin share, the tour includes seven nights’ accommodation in quality boutique properties with breakfasts, five dinners, mountain bike and helmet, fully guided Angkor Wat tour, a massage and airport transfers.

I'd better start not only saving - but also getting fit. For that trip a few years down the track.
