What's old is new again. How about a milkshake in a Mason jar?

Milkshakes are back in vogue. Along with burgers, what's old is new again. 

The ibis hotel brand (they are so cool they use a lower case i) has just launched a new range of milkshakes in Australia it hopes its hip guests will photograph and share on social media.

Ibis says the "retro-inspired flavours have been designed to meet the demand for quirky, visually over-the-top drinks that will prompt customers to ‘virtually’ share and enjoy with their friends and followers online".


But these are no ordinary milkshakes.

The salted caramel is topped with caramelised popcorn and waffle, the Nutella shake (below) is served with rocky road and pretzels while the strawberry shake comes with pavlova meringue and fresh strawberries.

So far, so over the top. Priced at $7 each, all ibis Shimmy Shakes will be served in vintage Mason jars with fresh cream. 
Simon McGrath, chief operating officer of AccorHotels Pacific, said the trend for fun, oversized beverages doesn’t seem to be fading. The fad, he believes, is thanks to millennials who love social media bragging rights, and families who’ve embraced the ‘freak shake’ phenomenon as a special treat for their kids.

“Hotels and restaurants are increasingly looking to differentiate in 2016 with themed non-alcoholic beverage menus - from milkshakes right through to handcrafted sodas, juices and herbal teas – and as such we are excited to have launched the ibis Shimmy Shake,” he said.

“Not only does it complement our existing menu items, but it satisfies recent feedback from our guests for an increased range of affordable and contemporary food and drink offerings available on premises for added convenience.”

The ibis Shimmy Shake complements the brand’s ibis Boomer Burger, a premium Angus beef offering cooked fresh to order, which was successfully introduced across the hotel network last year.
