Love cider? Love pork? Here is an event for you

The countdown is on to the inaugural Victorian Cider and Pork Festival - to be held over the Australia Day Long Weekend among the vines at Rochford Wines in the Yarra Valley.

Celebrating all things pomaceous and porcine, the two-day festival will be held over the Australia Day long weekend - on Saturday, January 23 and Sunday, January 24.

The launch follows the success of a sister festival in Western Australia's Swan Valley over the past three years.

More than 75 international and Australian ciders will be on showcase, many ice cold from the tap, with the opportunity to sample some of Melbourne’s finest pork fare from 15 different food trucks and pop-restaurants.

Among the local cider producers in attendance will be locals St Ronan’s Cider and Napoleone Cider & Brewery, along with Willie Smiths Organic Cider from Tasmania, Batlow Cider Co, Hills Cider, Custard & Co, Daylesford Cider Co, Flying Brick, Sidekick Cider, Granite Belt Cider, Aspall Suffolk Cider, Young Henrys and many more.

The festival will also showcase over 60 different pork dishes from Melbourne restaurants and food trucks such as Fancy Hanks, Blue Bonnet BBQ, The Rib Joint, Pulled Kitchen and White Guy Cooks Thai, plus a pig on a spit and artisan beer producers from around Australia, including Stone & Wood, Young Henrys, Colonial Brewing Co and, from just down the road, Hargreaves Hill Brewing.

Masterclasses held over both days of the festival will enable visitors to make the most of the cider tastings and learn about varying ranges of ciders from France, Australia and the UK.

The Australasian Barbecue Alliance - promoting low and slow barbecues within Australia – will be hosting an ABA-sanctioned barbecue competition at the festival and guests will be entertained with live music on two stages and a DJ stage featuring live bands, acoustic acts, DJs, buskers and roaming entertainment.

General admission tickets to the 2016 Cider & Pork Festival costs $40 per person including a schooner of cider or beer. VIP tickets are $175.00 per person - and include exclusive access to the Rochford Restaurant and Garden Lounge area, two free drink tokens and access to one cider masterclass.

Bus transfers will also be available from destinations in and around the Melbourne CBD and innercity suburbs to Rochford Wines and back – with shuttle bus also available between Lilydale Station and the Rochford campus.
